6.2 Menus

List 6.2.1 File Menu
  • New Item: Creates a new item by launching the New Item Window. A group must be selected before enabling this menu item. The item is created appended to the list of child elements in the selected group.

  • New Group: Creates a new group by launching the New Group Window. A group or domain must be selected before enabling this menu item. The group is appended to the list of child elements in the selected group.

  • New Domain: A domain is a top-level folder representing a web site, or a collection of documents such as a book. A new domain can be created at any time and is appended to the list of domains once created. When this menu item is selected, the New Domain Window shows.

  • Open Workspace: When the application is first opened, the user is asked to select workspace. If during a session with the application, the user decides to open a different workspace, then this menu item can be selected.

  • Edit Metadata: Domains, groups and items all have editable metadata. Selecting this menu item causes the Edit Metadata window to appear.

  • Print: Prints the raw text of the document.

  • Save: Saves the currently selected item.

  • Update Links: Updates all of the pages of a domain so that links and navigation are current.

List 6.2.2 Edit Menu
  • Undo: Undo and Redo should work on the primary Edit Field when editing items.

  • Delete Node: Delete node deletes the currently selected node. You cannot delete a domain with this menu item; for that, you must manually remove the file.

List 6.2.3 View Menu
  • View Item Resources (alternatively Hide Item Resources: This menu item displays a floating window with five tabs for figures, images, movies, tables and files that are associated with a particular item. Each item can be embedded (or linked to in the case of files) by dragging the item from the ListBox to the editing window.

  • View XML Source:

  • View HTML Source: View the XHTML output of Metawrite.

  • Preview in Browser: View the output in the default browser.

  • Preferences (Under preferences on Macintosh): User preferences and syntax highlighting preferences.
